Overview

The NBDHE® is anticipated to undergo important blueprint and content updates beginning in October 2026. This course provides dental hygiene faculty with a clear overview of what is changing and what is staying the same, highlights updated and renamed content areas, and explains what these updates may mean for student preparation and curriculum planning.

A key focus of the course is helping faculty understand how a student’s exam date determines which NBDHE® specifications apply. Practical guidance is provided to help faculty advise students who may be preparing for the exam before or after the anticipated October 2026 transition.

The course also includes a live Q&A, providing an opportunity for faculty to ask questions about the anticipated changes and discuss their potential impact on student preparation and curriculum.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, you will understand:

  • The new 2026/2027 guidelines compared side by side with the old ones

  • The "old" advice that should no longer be passed on to students

  • NEW distribution across the discipline-based areas

  • The content areas being added or renamed, including local anesthesia, emerging technologies, and documentation and risk management

  • Live Q&A — ask anything you'd like
