Overview

The NBDHE® is anticipated to undergo important blueprint and content updates beginning in October 2026. This course provides dental hygiene faculty with a clear overview of what is changing and what is staying the same, highlights updated and renamed content areas, and explains what these updates may mean for student preparation and curriculum planning.

A key focus of the course is helping faculty understand how a student’s exam date determines which NBDHE® specifications apply. Practical guidance is provided to help faculty advise students who may be preparing for the exam before or after the anticipated October 2026 transition.

The course also includes a live Q&A, providing an opportunity for faculty to ask questions about the anticipated changes and discuss their potential impact on student preparation and curriculum.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Review the new categories, technologies, and highlights, including implants and NSPT

  • Clarify generic vs brand names on the exam

  • Explain how the exam runs

  • Cover how difficult the exam is

  • Show what a case study looks like and what that means
