This course provides an inside look at the CRDTS Dental Hygiene Simulated Patient Examination and its role in assessing entry-level competency for dental hygienists. The presentation will offer an overview of how the examination supports state boards in protecting the public, the structure of the simulated patient exam, and the core clinical skills evaluated. Attendees will gain clarity on the exam format, components, timing, standards followed, and what candidates can expect in a simulated clinic environment. By the end of the session, faculty will feel more confident guiding students through the expectations and structure of the CRDTS exam.
Explain the overall purpose of the CRDTS Dental Hygiene Simulated Patient Examination and its role in evaluating competency for state licensure.
Identify the key components of the exam, including the OSCE and clinical sections, and understand the general structure and timing.
Recognize the core clinical skills assessed, such as periodontal probing, calculus detection and removal, and tissue management.
Describe the standards and protocols followed during the exam, including adherence to OSHA regulations, CDC guidelines, and school clinic protocols.
Understand logistical elements of the examination, including cost and the inclusion of a complimentary retake.
Help students gain practical insight into what to expect during the simulated clinical exam environment.
